Rule: Naming things

There is a trend to give a project or effort a catchy name. This isn’t always a great idea, because when that name gets in the hands of the customer, and it will, it becomes a hook for conversations that don’t lead to providing your chosen value.

Naming is hard, and you need a symbol to talk about things, but we ought to be mindful to not be too cute when naming stuff that we don’t want to spend time that takes away from what we really care about.

As a rule, only name things that you are going to sell or make open source and give away. For everything else, just label it with a functional description.
