It might be the case that the greatest change in American society we could make is to fix Federal Officer pay schedule as a multiple of 1600 hours of the Federal Minimum wage and to tax corporations based on how much greater that multiple is between their lowest paid worker and their highest.
Currently the President is paid about 34 times that; if it were set to 10 times that, and you buttressed that with corresponding corporate tax “base-load”, things would look significantly different.
Intel’s CEO (who “cut” his salary by 25% but is keeping his stock grants) was compensated in 2021 to the tune of 15,341 times that of someone working 1600 hours at the Federal minimum wage.
If the board knew that they’d have to pay $500K for each point of that multiplier, I think they’d put their money elsewhere. (it works out to be about 4 times what they spent on share buy-backs in 2021)
