misc dumb stuf

ok, so dumb stuff that i see and apparently no one else does:

  • inventory control in national chain boutiques: I was in Banana Republic the other day and the clerk was on the phone with another location doing a stock check with them. Now this seems dumb, I mean, the UPC labels all are in the computer, the stock has to be received, so why isn’t the stock annotated in some database somewhere? It is, you don’t get to be as big as Gap, Inc. without some sort of inventory management system. That clerks at stores have to make phone calls between locations to check stock when the inventory is managed by a database just seems like a waste of time for everyone involved.
  • ticket availability for movies: Call me crazy, but I don’t like showing up for a movie and finding a gazillion people waiting in line. That doesn’t mean I don’t like going to popular movies early in the release cycle however, but my experience has been that when a theater shows a new movie twenty times in a single day, some of those showings will be less full than others. I think I should be able to tell how many tickets are available for a given showing, and the showings around it, and how yesterday’s schedule performed when I go to an on-line ticket vendor. The kinds of tickets, ( adult || child ), sold would be nice as well. That way I could make a judgement as to which showing I might have to share with the least amount of other people and least amount of kids.
