I have a wireless laptop, and have been wireless for something approaching three years now. During that time, my need for and use of a traditional desk has progressively diminished. The idea of sitting at a desk to accomplish anything has started to become outmoded in my mind, and my idea of the perfect office now centers around a nice couch with tables or counters at standing height for laying out projects, and walls filled with windows, chalk (yes, chalk) boards, or books. There isn’t any room in my life for a desk and all that it represents.
With a wireless laptop and a cell phone (maybe with a VoIP number being forwarded to it) if I need a table, I can go to a conference room or, preferably, a cafe.
Yeah, this doesn’t seem like news, or even a big deal, but I guess that this morning, as I was awkwardly trying to sit at my somewhat alien desk, I realized that I don’t need it.
