focus

The power of focus in our social life – the life we have amongst others – is all built upon certain mutually agreed upon tenants. These are things of political and social philosophy – the logos of the agora so to speak.

…what do we do with being…

Being is one of those pesky present progressive words which impart a sense of never-ending process. Being is not something one does at a particular time and then is finished with, instead it is something that one does continuously and which has no discretely bounded origin or conclusion. One cannot ‘be’ for a minute or an hour or a day… one is, right up until the time when one is not. There is no commensurability for complete being within incomplete existence.

There are other similar words – becoming is one of them, as is evolving. They are all referential pointers to the journey Apollonius indicates a student is initiated into when they embark upon an understanding of the world through geometry. This is the space – the chora – that contains the continuum that provides the deep fundament from which all our particular experiences and pin-pricks of understanding are drawn from.

What does all that bullshit mean? It means that we are not the sum of our experiences, rather our experiences are projections of an infinitesimal bit of the totality of our selves. We see and show to others so much less than what we truly have at our individual and corporate disposal because we know not who we are
